Race Report by Larry Quinn:
This
was a sunny, good natured event with everyone trying to tidy up their end of
season points.
GP
A - Richard Perry led from start to finish on scratch and won the race. Ed
Reeve finished third on scratch but took the Group A Championship for the first
time in his career. Meanwhile Bernie Baxter and Graham Smeeton moved
themselves into the top six of the class points table.
GP
B - Will Smallridge led at the end of the first lap in the Group B contest then
Mark Turner developed an appetite for a race and mounted a charge which took him
to the front of the class for the next five laps while Gareth Penn moved in
behind him. Will took the class lead again on lap seven until the finish
and beat Ed Reeve on scratch, Gareth slowed and retired on lap twelve.
However Mark kept up his charge, but unlike Richard Perry who met duelling GP C
runners Mooney and Langford, also at Riches, four laps earlier and hung back to
pass them on the straight, Mark unwisely put his slicks between their treads
right on the corner and consequently all three went off. Mark restarted to
finish the race second in class. Will is also a first time class champion.
GP
C – Ian Langford and Dominic Mooney had the race of the day in constantly
changing places with not much more than a tenth of a second between the pair,
but after the lap thirteen incident, only Dominic was able to continue and
finish the race.
Memo
to all Modifed drivers - Remember road tyres ‘turn in’ different to slicks.
