Race Report:
Gareth
Penn took overall honours to cross the finish line first in one of those rare
occasions a GP B car dominates the race, and to add insult to injury he was
closely followed home by Mark Turner in another GP B Midget.
At
the start Gareth rocketed off the line in close company with Tim Storrar, Will
Smallridge and an already struggling Ed Reeve. Tim then had an off track
excursion on the first lap and unknown to him lost his fuel filler cap, this
allowed petrol to wash his rear tyres while cornering, bad news, he pitted
mid-race. Will’s car also developed trouble and pitted on lap 2 which
left the way open for a furious GP B third place scrap. Malcolm Self held
it all the way but he, Peter Blanchett and Howard Vizor were racing in the same
tenth of a second for all of the second half of the race and finished in that
order.
Ed
Reeve in the leading GP A car had to drive with a bad misfire over 5000rpm but
still managed third on the road.
Peter
Dignan took GP C honours to reinforce his overall championship lead but Ian
Langford was on a charge and set fastest lap on the way to second in class.
Andrew Actman was third, secretly worried about some rear axle mods he’d
carried out after losing a wheel at Silverstone, and was pleased to get the
place from Richard Sapcote on lap six and hold it.
Newcomers
in GP A, Bernie Baxter and Graham Smeeton were very pleased to find themselves
second and third in class respectively.
